New Team Member // Elizabeth Maddens, Art Instructor
I am so thrilled to be the new art teacher at DAA!! I have lived in the metro-Detroit area my whole life, and attended Wayne State University for my art education degree, so I thought I was pretty familiar with the incredible city our school resides in, but even in my brief time with DAA I have already discovered so much more! The environment here reminds me that we never stop being learners. From the first time I met the staff, the dedication and passion of everyone involved here was clear to me. (Not to mention the friendly smiles and fun times!)
My responsibilities at the school include creating and implementing an effective art curriculum that will engage students in relatable and exploratory art experiences that uphold the state of Michigan visual arts standards. I will also be supporting teachers and students in their own classrooms and elsewhere whenever time allows. I will be working alongside classroom teachers to incorporate each grade’s expeditions into the art room. I feel incredibly fortunate that art is considered such an integral part of learning at DAA.
My favorite type of art to create (currently) is mixed media. When I’m not teaching or making art, I enjoy reading, playing soccer, and spending time with family.
I am already loving watching the students work out their creative muscles, and I am so looking forward to seeing what the year brings, and to filling our halls with artwork from the DAA crew!
