Night Of The Arts

This past year we hosted Detroit Achievement Academies first ever Night Of The Arts! This event was a celebration of all the hard work our students put in all year long in art, music, and dance classes. DAA’s Night of The Arts highlighted K-8 artwork in our brand new gallery space. All of the student artwork was vibrant and colorful and embodied how unique and colorful each different grade level is. Having a large gallery space full of student work and families admiring it made our space feel like a real art gallery! K-8 students' art included drawings, paintings, collages, stained glass, and 3D sculptures made in art throughout the year. A select group of student artists and parent volunteers hosted a community painting activity in the art studio too. This collaborative project allowed young artists and family members to sit together, enjoy time and paint with one another! It was truly magical!

While strolling through the art gallery our community was also able to enjoy the sounds of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Creative Youth Ensemble who, supported by Mr. Red performed incredible classical music in front of the music room. Families were also invited to learn how to make beats using bucket drums. This activity was held out on the patio led by a member of the DSO’s Youth Ensemble and it was an absolute HIT! Our own 6th-8th grade musicians also performed on stage to share their knowledge learned from their music class this term with Mr. Red. Last up for NOTA was the talent of our K-8 dancers guided by our very own Mr. B. It was so beautiful to see students Kindergarten through Eighth grade  bravely perform original choreography for our entire school community. And the finale for the night was an impressive performance by Mr. B’s studio dancers from his dance studio SkilSet Movement Studios

I also wanted to share a huge appreciation for our families who volunteered their time to help set up the art, prep and clean up before and after the event. K-8 students even worked together to create an incredible backdrop for our DIY photo booth in the gymnasium. Please enjoy the photos from this historic event which were captured by our very own first grader Houston (Houston Genius) & his dad Michal Smith.
