Kindergarten Crew // Weather Experts

We are now a few weeks into the new year! Kindergarteners have come so far in the past few weeks. A light switch has gone off and we are now flying into reading and writing. We are currently working on our Weather Module.  This is such a fun module for the students. We study weather in different places around the world and how it affects us.  All of our learning happens through texts and writing. This year we really wanted to make some fun out of learning about weather so we have started to incorporate more science experiments during our labs time. Our first experiment was a class experiment where we learned how moisture fills the clouds and falls to the earth. We modeled this using water, shaving cream as the cloud and blue food coloring.  The kids were very fascinated and were able to explain how water fills the clouds and when they get heavy the rain or snow falls.

Our latest experiment we were able to do individually. We had learned about tornados and how they spin in a cone shape (we learned about cones in our last math module), so we decided to make ourselves our own tornado in a bottle. It was so exciting to watch the excitement on the students faces as they made their tornado and played with them. We added water, soap and glitter to our bottles and spun them to make the funnel or cone shape. We look forward to the rest of the experiments that we will be doing in the next few weeks as we continue to learn about weather!
