The Big Scrub -- July 13th & 14th

Before our kids arrive, before we move in our furniture, before we paint, and before we make our future space beautiful and magical for our students, we have to clean it up a bit. We need a few volunteers to join us the weekend of July 13th-14th to help us wash our walls, shelves, and clean up outside our building.

We will provide all the cleaning materials, good tunes, and great jokes. We just need you to bring some elbow grease and a smile.

We've broken it down to two-hour shifts on both days. You are welcome to register for as many shifts as you would like.

We do ask that you and any guests you bring be sure to register here, so we know who to expect and when and can be in touch with you leading up to the event. We will e-mail you for your t-shirt size (our thank you for your help!)

E-mail getinvolved@detroitachievement.org with any questions, suggestions, or ideas!

We can't wait to see you there!

FAQ:

Q: What sort of cleaning will be happening?A: Inside, we will be wiping walls, mopping floors, scrubbing corners.  Outside, we will be weeding, bush and tree trimming, and (if we are feeling wild) maybe building some raised garden beds and painting.

Q: What cleaning materials will you be using?A: We will be using vinegar, Simple Green, water, cotton towels, and scrubbers. One lucky person will even get to powerwash the side of the building.

Q: What sort of tunes will you be playing?A: We anticipate some Lumineers, Walk the Moon, Marina and the Diamonds, Beirut, Daft Punk, and maybe even some Big Sean. We will accomodate all requests in our playlist.

Q: What should I wear?A: Whatever you want. Plan to get wet and dirty. There won't be any crazy hazardous materials or things that could give you splnters.

Q: Will there be a film crew there?A: Probably.
